    We Could Change Everything

This evening, I sent a donation to help those impacted by the earthquake in Myanmar. It wasn’t enough to be life-changing, just a quiet gesture, a thread of hope sent across the world. But as I did, I couldn’t help thinking how often we pour our energy into things that, in the end, feel so insignificant. We argue. We perform. We busy ourselves with noise. Meanwhile, somewhere else, real suffering is unfolding in silence. It’s humbling. It’s heartbreaking. What could the world look like if we channeled that energy into compassion? Into feeding the hungry, sheltering the displaced, healing those left behind, hidden in plain sight? We don’t have to…

Another Great Day in the Studio with Joel Prevost

There’s something magical about stepping into the studio, where the outside world fades, and creativity takes over. Today was another inspiring session with Joel Prevost, focused on refining the muscles and flow of my latest large-scale sculpture. The process of bringing form to life is both challenging and rewarding, a delicate balance between precision and intuition. Sculpting muscles is about more than just anatomy; it’s about capturing movement, tension, and energy. Each stroke of clay adds depth, and with Joel’s guidance, I’m learning to see beyond the surface—understanding how the body flows and connects in harmony. The subtlety of muscle definition, the way light plays off the curves and lines,…

Blog Post #2: The Stallion Sculpture – Overcoming Setbacks and Pushing Forward

Creating a piece as monumental as my partial life-sized bust of a stallion during my Artist in Residence program with Joel Prevost at Vancouver Island Sculpting Studio has been an incredible journey. It’s going to be a massive undertaking and a true testament to the power of collaboration with a world-class mentor. From the very beginning, this project has pushed my limits, and I know there will be many more of those moments before the piece is complete. However, as with any ambitious artistic endeavor, setbacks are inevitable. One of the most significant challenges we faced came when we attempted to build a superstructure to support the sculpture. We had…

Sculpture in Progress: Creating a Monumental Rearing Stallion

As an artist in residence with Joel Prevost at Vancouver Island Sculpting Studio, I’m thrilled to begin a new and, for me, monumental sculpture. One of the most exciting—and challenging—aspects of my work is the journey from initial concept to the finished creation. Currently, I’m embarking on a project that has me especially excited: a large-scale sculpture of a rearing stallion, standing over four feet tall. This piece will be a true celebration of movement, power, and grace, and I can’t wait to share the creative process with you as it unfolds. Bringing the Stallion to Life For me, the stallion represents so much more than just an animal. Horses,…

AIR, Artist In Residence, fall program

Today we begin to explore washes, painting on the maquettes to find what works and doesn’t for the first large size project, the bust of Farzana. After using different techniques and blends of washes and glazes, the decision will be made for the final treatment of the three quarter scale bust of my incredibly unique and opinionated mare, Farzana. Fun days ahead! Next week we begin the large scale piece based on the wild horse, capturing the power and majesty of these incredible animals as it transforms itself from the earth into reality. Love this piece already!
